How to get into a career in social media

Our Social Media Executive, Hannah’s Journey

Social media has become an integral part of our lives, with millions of people using various platforms to connect, engage, and share content with others. As a result, social media has become a thriving industry with numerous career opportunities for those with a passion for digital media. If you’re interested in getting into a career in social media, you might be wondering where to start.

In this blog, our social media executive Hannah describes how she found a career in social media

“I landed an amazing job at Just Bee Social thanks to the Kickstart government scheme! After going through some tough times during my early teenage years, I wasn’t sure what career path to pursue after school. To make ends meet, I took on various jobs like working in a warehouse, cooking at a pub, and even bartending. While I was actively searching for better opportunities and receiving universal credit, my job coach told me about the Kickstart program, which was a game-changer for me.

I had the opportunity to interview at Just Bee Social for the position of social media coordinator, and despite my limited experience, I was thrilled because I have a real passion for social media platforms like TikTok. I knew social media will continue to offer numerous benefits and opportunities for individuals and society but had little information on how many careers are in social media .

If you’re looking for a career in social media, there are a wide range of opportunities in various industries. Here are some examples:

Social Media Manager
A full turnkey service for social media including creating strategies, managing accounts, and engaging with the audience.

Content Creator
Developing compelling content like text, images, videos, and graphics.

Digital Marketing Specialist
Utilising social media as part of a broader marketing strategy to promote products and services.

Social Media Analyst
Analysing data to assess campaign performance and provide insights.

Influencer/Brand Ambassador
Collaborating with brands to promote products and engage followers.

In January 2020, I got the incredible news that I had secured the position, and as time went on, I proved my worth and was eventually promoted to a full-time role as a social media executive within just six months!

But it didn’t stop there. To further develop my skills in the field, with the help of my amazing team I decided to enrol in a Level 3 digital marketing course at Wigan and Leigh College. I’m super excited about this new journey and can’t wait to see where it takes me.”

If you’re interested in a career in social media, Hannah’s journey is one of many routes that you can take!
